Fitting Services
As part of a bike purchase at Blue Sky, basic fitting services are included in the process of selecting the customers’ new bike. However for a variety of reasons, many riders with existing bikes come to us for our expertise in customizing their bike fit. Some riders are looking for a more aerodynamic bike position, others are looking to maximize their power and many simply want to be more comfortable on their bikes.
Blue Sky offers a range of fit services all of which involve time with a Certified Fit Technician. The Fit Technician’s job is to listen to your needs and objectives and then use his or her extensive practical experience both as a cyclist and a trained fitting professional to make or recommend changes that will enhance and optimize your cycling experiences.
The following information outlines our standard fitting services. If you have other specific questions or needs in regard to bicycle fit, please give us a call and ask to speak with one of our three Certified Fit Technicians.
So that we may devote uninterrupted time to your bicycle fitting please call ahead for a fitting appointment.
1. Existing Bicycle Fit
Many people experience discomfort while riding their bikes. Neck and shoulder pain, numbness and pain in the soles of their feet or hands are just a few of the common discomforts that many cyclists experience. A bicycle fitting at Blue Sky can greatly increase rider comfort as well as provide feedback on pedal stroke and power transmission.
During a brief interview process, your Fit Technician will get an understanding of your existing fit issues and establish goals for the fitting process. Using our dedicated Sizing Room, the Fit Technician will place your bike on an indoor trainer and observe your position on the bike and pedaling dynamics. Immediate adjustments are often possible. Significant changes (major change in seat height, fore/aft position of the saddle) to the existing bike will be mapped out and are generally undertaken over the course of several weeks.
Time Required: 60 – 90 minutes
Fee: $150.00
2. Triathlon Fit
In seeking to improve and maximize the results of your training, it is important that your bike position be bio-mechanically sound and as efficient as your body will allow. This begins with a professional bike fit.
The Triathlon fit process is similar to the Existing Bike Fit, but the parameters for the outcome are quite different. Achieving comfort is still a critical goal of the fit, but doing so in the context of an aerodynamically positive position is the key to the fitting. Additionally, correct aero bar set up is an added component to the Tri Fit session.
Time Required: 90 – 120 minutes
Fee: $175.00
3. Custom Size Cycle Fitting Session
If you are planning on a custom bike purchase, the starting point is a Size Cycle Fitting. This process involves an extensive interview between you and a Certified Fit Technician to document your riding style, your degree of physical flexibility, and your goals for the new bike. The interview process will allow you to prioritize characteristics that you are looking for in the new bike such as handling, overall weight, stiffness, comfort, etc.
Step 2 of the fit session involves riding the Size Cycle, which is a completely adjustable, stationary bike. The Fit Technician can make numerous adjustments to this piece of equipment, allowing you to experience a range of different frame geometries, stem lengths, and handlebar heights. So that together, you and the Technician can document every bit of information necessary to create a bicycle that is completely balanced, aesthetically pleasing, tuned to your riding preferences and that fits you perfectly.
Time Required: 120-150 minutes
Fee: $225.00
*If you purchase a complete custom bicycle from Blue Sky within 90 days of your Fitting Session, you will receive a store credit of $125.00 which can be applied to accessories, clothing, shoes or pedals.
4. Cleat Fitting
Step-in pedals systems have become standard on most road and mountain bikes. It is extremely important that your cleats are set up so that they allow your feet to be in their most natural and comfortable position. This will minimize the risk of injury. Secondarily proper cleat position optimizes the transmission of power from the body to the bike.
The best way to pinpoint this crucial position is with the Fit Kit systems’ Rotational Adjustment Device. This system allows us to position your cleats at the exact spot on the sole of your shoe that is most natural and comfortable for your feet and will give you the optimal power transmission point.
Time Required: 45 minutes
Fee: $50.00
