Women's Bikes

SPECIALIZED - TREK - PINARELLO - SANTA CRUZ

As a bike shop so focused on fit, it makes sense that we have a dedicated women’s department. Women’s bodies have different dimensions, characteristics, and needs than men. That’s why we stock the Capital Region’s most comprehensive selection of road, mountain, and triathlon bikes for women. Regardless of the gender of our staff, we all understand the various issues that must be addressed, and how to address them. Most importantly, however, we don’t simply assume that all women need to be on “Women’s Specific” products. There many instances in which a unisex product may be best, and our staff is both trained and intuitive on when Women’s Specific products are appropriate. What else would you expect from the only woman-owned shop in the area?

We fit every road bike we sell. A road bike purchase from Blue Sky Bicycles comes with a complementary basic fit. The basic fit includes time on a trainer* with cleat positioning, saddle height adjustment, saddle fore/aft adjustment, and cockpit length and height (which may include changing the stem for a different size). We can say with confidence that we spend more time making sure your new bike fits you.

We take the same level of care as our road bike fits with mountain bikes. Although mountain biking is more dynamic, fit is just as important, as is suspension setup. That’s why every full suspension or 29er mountain bike purchase at Blue Sky Bicycles includes a basic fit and suspension setup, as well as a tutorial on how your bike’s suspension works. The basic fit includes cleat positioning, saddle height, saddle fore-aft adjustment, and cockpit length and height (which may include changing the stem for a different size).

The fit process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 or more hours. If you’re shopping for a new bike, we highly recommend making an appointment with us. The store can get quite busy at times, and an appointment will ensure the best possible experience for you. You are always welcome to just stop in as well; we will always do our best to accommodate you.

In addition to the basic fit, we also offer complete and comprehensive Serotta International Cycling Institute (SICI) fits for new bike purchases. Please visit our Fit Studio page for a complete description of the SICI fit.

Our fitting services are also available for your existing bike. Make the most out of your riding experience with a professional fit from a Serotta-certified fitter.

Brands Offering Women's Specific Options

Specialized Bicycles

Based in Morgan Hill, CA, Specialized was founded as Specialized Bicycle Components in 1974 by Mike Sinyard as a small importer and component distributor. In 1979 they produced their first road bike, the Allez. Today they have a great women's line, in road, mountain, and recreational bikes. Designed and tested by women, for women.

Trek Bicycles

Based in Waterloo, WI, Trek has been producing road bikes since 1975. The company was founded on hand-brazed lugged steel frames, but quickly embraced technological advances in the 1980s with aluminum and carbon fiber, and dedicated themselves to carbon fiber in the 1990s with a substantial investment in in-house production capacity. Trek also has a dedicated staff for their WSD, or Women Specific Design models, which are available for road, mountain, or recreational use.

Pinarello

Pinarello frames have been ridden to victory in one-day road races like Milan-San Remo, Paris-Nice, Ghent-Wevelgem, Tour of Lombardy, and the Olympic Games. They've held their own -- to say the least -- in stage races as well, including countless stage victories, as well as overall victory, in the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. The list of pros who found greatness riding a Pinarello is epic: Cipollini, Indurain, Riis, Zabel, Ullrich, Petacchi, Valverde, and Pereiro top the list. Today Team Sky and Movistar in the pro peloton ride Pinarellos to victory. But it's not the Pinarello palmares that make it the most coveted frame brand on the market. As Fausto Pinarello once wrote, "a great bicycle can be great without a great rider. A winning bicycle brings together the expert of the artisan, the latest in technological innovation, a passion for the sport, and a fanatical attention to perfection."
